Officers Will Bike 300 Miles For Fallen Brethren

On the 10th anniversary of 9/11, three Chicago-area police officers will ride to benefit the families of officers killed in the line of duty.

Come September, Northbrook Police Officer Michael Shep plans to drive 800 miles to New York City, then bike another 300 miles more from Ground Zero to the Pentagon.

Shep is putting those miles on his car and his bicycle as part of Tour De Force 2011, an annual ride that honors victims of 9/11 and raises money for the families of officers who have been killed in the line of duty across the country each year.

Anyone interested in donating to Shep’s ride with the Tour de Force can do so by searching for his name on the donations page of the Tour de Force website, at http://www.tourdeforceny.com/sections/donation.asp, or by contacting Shep directly at 847-509-5381 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 847-509-5381 end_of_the_skype_highlighting.

'Ground Zero' steel comes to Enfield to join fire department's 9/11 memorial

Enfield is receiving a piece of the towers as part of a Port Authority program to distribute artifacts from Ground Zero to any fire department, police department or municipal agency wishing to incorporate it into a permanent and public Sept. 11 display.

The steel beams, each 18 feet long and weighing about 1,400 pounds each, were part of the World Trade Towers that came crashing to earth when the towers collapsed following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Specifically, they were part of the building frame on the north face of the north tower.

'Rescue Me' finale date to coincide with 9/11 Anniversary

The series finale of the FX drama Rescue Me has been set for a date that will tie into its 9/11 origins.

The Sept. 6 broadcast will coincide with programming commemorating the 10th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York -- the event which inspired the Denis Leary series about NYC firefighters dealing with the physical and emotional aftermath of the event.

The network deliberately chose not to air the finale on Sept. 11, notes the Associated Press.

FX president John Landgraf said Saturday at the TCA winter press tour, "It seemed appropriate not to air it on the day because there are more solemn and appropriate things to do on the day. The weeks surrounding the day seemed to be the appropriate place to do it."

Rescue Me will wrap up after its seventh season.
